Installing Freesat onto a Sky Dish?
I am just about to cancel my Sky subscription and rather than run an aerial cable to the TV for FREEVIEW thought I would try FREESAT……
Can I just connect a Freesat box to my (ex) Sky Dish without doing anything to it. I thought that was the case until I noticed that ScrewFix sell LNB’s(?) for Sky dishes that “will enable you to receive FreeSat”. Dont want to touch the dish as its very high up and would have to rent ladders etc (plus, I dont like heights).

Yes simply swapping over the box will give you the official ‘FreeSat’ capability. You could of course stick with the Sky box with a somewhat reduced capability over a Freesat box. If you were to do that though you would not retain the Sky+ or HD or any other appended services you may currently have. All of these types of things are really capabilities of the box which Sky can remotely switch on or off if you decide to cancel any of them.
If you can manage the initial outlay I would definitely bin off the Sky box and have a nice fully functioning dual tuner HD FreeSat box so you can record and watch HD. You can then get the full experience without having to worry about monthly bills again. Humax still do the best one I reckon.
